Pet Insurance

Is Pet Insurance Right for You

If you take your dog or cat to the vet, you need pet insurance.

U.S. pet owners will spend nearly $11 billion on veterinary care in 2008 according to the American Pet Products Association (APPA). The APPA also reports American pet owners spend on average over $700 annually per dog and $500 annually per cat for healthcare expenses.

While those figures are significant, they represent the average expenditures. Many pet owners spend thousands of dollars to treat unexpected accidents and illnesses every day. Would you be caught off guard by an unexpected veterinary bill?

If so, pet insurance from PetFirst Healthcare is a smart way to plan for unforeseen veterinary costs.

Pet insurance is also a great way to budget for routine care expenses as well. PetFirst Healthcare’s comprehensive plans cover annual exams, flea and tick prevention, heartworm prevention and vaccinations.

Pet insurance makes planning for your pet’s healthcare easy! PetFirst’s coverage is simple and easy to use providing comprehensive pet healthcare for everyday and unexpected veterinary expenses. From vaccinations to a late night visit to the emergency clinic, you can give your pet the best care available while controlling the costs.

Choosing the Right Pet Insurance Coverage for Your Pet Family

There are a variety of pet insurance options to ensure your pets receive the best pet healthcare available. Below are a few considerations when selecting a plan from PetFirst Healthcare.

How many pets do you have? PetFirst Healthcare is the only pet insurance company that offers family plans allowing multi-pet households to save even more. PetFirst offers single cat and single dog plans as well and two-pet and three-pet family plans. For pet parents with more than three pets, PetFirst encourages you to activate more than one plan.

What kind of coverage do you want? PetFirst offers a variety of coverage options including:

  • Accident Only Plans – These plans cover unexpected injuries only. This includes coverage for foreign body ingestion or a motor vehicle accident.
  • Accident, Illness and Routine Care Plans – These plans are the most comprehensive covering almost every expense your encounter at the veterinary clinic. This includes coverage for infections, diabetes, bite wounds, vaccinations, flea and tick prevention and office visits. PetFirst refers to these plans as Comprehensive Coverage.
How much coverage do you want? PetFirst Healthcare plans differ in coverage in three ways:
  • Per incident limit – This is the maximum PetFirst Healthcare will pay for a particular incident. These limits go as high as $3,500.
  • Annual benefit limit – This is the maximum PetFirst Healthcare will pay in a particular policy year.
  • Routine benefit limit – This is the amount of routine care available per year per pet.
When selecting a PetFirst Healthcare plan, it’s important to note that PetFirst plans do not have a lifetime benefit limit.

PetFirst’s accident only plans reimburse 100% of the veterinary cost after a $50 per incident deductible.

PetFirst’s Basic and Preferred plans reimburse 90% after a $50 per incident deductible
